Pterostylis decurva

Summer and autumn flowering Greenhood which favors medium altitudes though found from coastal to highland areas. Apparently quite common in a range of soils and habitats but perhaps favors stony dolerite soils. A medium to large-sized greenhood which comes at a time when the spring/eary summer flush is over.

These images taken on Mt Wellington at around 700 m above sea level 27 Dec 2018. Also seen – potato orchids at a slightly lower altitude. The prefered habitat seems to be open, sunny sites on stabilised boulder fields with little tree cover.

Dec 2020 up-date: flowering seems a week or so later this year though there are good numbers of buds in evidence as at 26 Dec.
