Caladenia carnia (Pink fingers)

Caladenia carnea is one of the most common orchids seen in the Tasmanian Spring through until December. Generally a small pink orchid with 4 lower ‘fingers’ and an erect upper(dorsal) sepal. Often with one flower to a stem, multi-flower stems are not uncommon. The colour can be variable ranging from strong bright pink to white/pink. it is found over a large area of Tasmania from the lower South-East though the East Coast, midlands and North East and across the NW Coast .

Habitat includes open dry schelophyl forest, native grasslands and heath. Specimens shown below were photographed around the Waterworks and south Arm in September and October.
