Caladenia species (“Spider’ orchids)

Caladenia species are called ‘spider’ orchids because of the appearance of the petals, which in some but by no means all species are elongated to the point of being extremely long and thin in relation to the other floral parts, giving a ‘spidery’ apperance. Many species however have much smaller and broader petals. This is a very widespread genus in Tasmania and flowering is limited to Spring and summer. Some of our most colourful and attractive orchids are members of this genus
