Eriochilus cucullatus (Parsons Bands)

Eriochilus cucullatus (Parsons Bands) are widely distributed around much of Tasmania in drier areas of light bush, open forest and heath. Flowering occurs from around January through the Autumn to April.

The small flowers range from white through pale pink to deep carmine and there are usually one or two flowers per scape. Leaves are not usually seen at flowering but appear later.

This orchid appears at a time when there are not a lot of other species in flower. The images below were taken near the Huon Road on dry mudstone hillsides in late Feb and early March 2021 in open situations under scattered Silver Peppermint gums ( Euc tenuaramis) but they are found on a variety of soils.
