Pterostylis squamata (Ruddy Greenhood)

Pterostylis squamata (Ruddy greenhood) is a scarce summer-flowering greenhood that is adapted to dry conditions in Tasmania’s South-East, East and central midlands. Typical habitat is open Shee-oak or eucalypt forest or heathland. 1 – 10 flowers on a 8 – 18 cm scape.

Usually there are but a few plants seen in any given location.

The flowers below were located in the Channel area South of Hobart in mid January. I have also seen it on the East coast in the Coles Bay area at a similar time of the year.
