Caladenia caudata (tailed Spider orchid)

Found in open eucalypt forest, heath and grass-land often in association with She-oaks. Usually flowers from early September in Southern Tasmania although in 2020 flowers were seen by 15 August. The flowers are usually one per scape though sometimes two flowers are carried by the same plant. Approx 10-15 cm tall, flowers 40 – 50 mm.

The single leaf is very hairy as is the scape and up to 16 cm long x 10 mm wide.

The Tailed Spider Orchid is found in the SE, Upper East Coast, NE and North Coast. A fairly scarce orchid though a significant colony occurs in the Waverly Floral Park, Bellerive.
