Caladenia atrata (Dark caladenia)

Found in dry lightly forested areas in SE Tasmania and the North Coast, this attractive orchid flowers in October and November. Caladenia atrata – dark caladenia – is often found in small scattered colonies. The flowers are often double or more but may also be one per scape, The single leaf is hairy and the stem is covered in short hairs also.

These specimens were found in South Hobart (20.10.20) and Lenah Valley (2.11.21) on a dry hillside on rocky mud-stone soil.
