Prasohyllum amoenum (Dainty Leek)

Prasohyllum amoenum, the Dainty Leek has a very limited distribution, only recorded at Snug Plains, over 1000m on Kunanyi/Mt Wellington and possible occasional sightings on the Central plateau.

This is a small, slight leek orchid with 4 – 12 flowers, white petals with purpleish bands and green to greenish sepals

Around 10 flowering specimens and a few spent flowers were seen on 15 March located in the marshy ground at the headwaters of the NW Bay river close to the summit of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington, among low dense alpine herbage, cushion plants and sedges. Flowering seems quite late this year, with the usual flowering period more like mid-February. A few Pras. alpinum and Thelymitra cyana were still showing.
